Job Summary
The Backup administrator role is responsible for supporting all data protection technology in our data centers, in our cloud environments, as well as other implemented solutions. Key function of this role will be management and administration of the backup and restore platform, Commvault. This role is critical to maintaining the stability of IT data protection services within the RSC in support of Disaster Recovery plan execution. Role also will include support for other areas within desktop engineering, such as desk visits, VIP support, laptop refreshes, or other initiatives leadership directs the role to provide support to. Lastly, this role plays a heavy function in racking and stacking of equipment in our data centers, assisting in onboarding/offboarding technology into our data center environments.
Your Key Job Functions
• Develop, implement, and manage backup strategies and policies to safeguard critical business data
• Monitor and manage backup processes to ensure successful completion
• Perform regular testing of backup systems to verify data integrity and recovery procedures
• Collaborate across IT groups to address data recovery needs/issues
• Document all backup and restore procedures and maintain accurate records of schedules, architecture and activities
• Participate in SOX and PCI compliance activities including artifact review, creation, and updates
• Responsible for maintaining documentation and versioning as product offerings or architecture changes
• Update/input into document workflow deficiencies, and implement process improvements
• Documenting of problems, requests, changes, and incidents via Service Now ticketing system
• Daily communication with cross-functional teams within IT, but also within the business as a whole
• Performs Commvault application patching for servers/clients
• Administer/manage Commvault backup environment (On prem, cloud, SaaS)
• Stay current with industry trends and technologies regarding data protection
• Provide training and support to desktop engineering and EUC to act as redundant function in the Admin's absence
• Manage software lifecycle for currency, within 2 versions of general availability
• Manage hardware lifecycle for asset management/refresh lifecycle as determined by organization
• Conduct audits/testing of all backup types (file, unstructured, database, bare metal, etc...)
• Provide reporting on performance of systems and incident information
• Key player in disaster recovery tests and mock exercises
• Will act as redundancy for Level 1 Corporate Support or Desktop Engineering where business requires, for defined periods of time

• Excellent experience in the automation of manual tasks and seeking out efficiencies by 'shifting left' where possible, for example the automation of Desktop provisioning and Application deployment, including end user self-service
